How to save open browser tabs as Markdown in a batch

You can batch save selected, supported tabs with Tabvenir. “All open tabs” still needs a boundary: browser settings, extension pages, private windows and some protected content cannot be saved.

1. Separate reading pages from ongoing work

Before selecting a whole window, identify pages with unsent messages, edited forms, purchases or other work in progress. Keep those pages open. A saved article is not a copy of every interactive state inside a website.

Choose the tab scope in the side panel and use the title or URL filter to narrow the batch. Select the supported articles you want to read later. A URL list is often enough for tools you intend to revisit; saving their interface as an article may add little value.

2. Choose a folder or a ZIP export

A chosen folder lets Tabvenir write the notes and accompanying assets directly. Use a dedicated reading folder or an Obsidian vault with an appropriate notes subfolder. The browser may require renewed permission before writing.

A ZIP is useful when you want a portable batch. Download it, confirm it exists, and extract it before opening the notes. Keep the asset directory with the Markdown files so relative image references remain valid.

3. Prepare, review and save the batch

Start with a few representative pages. Include the longest article or the one containing images and code. Check the preview and result for missing content or warnings; a completed save does not certify full fidelity to the source.

If one page fails, keep its tab open and retry it separately after the relevant content has loaded. Logins, lazy-loaded media, embedded frames and unusual page layouts can change what is available to the extractor.

4. Confirm the files before closing tabs

Open at least one saved note in your editor and verify its source URL. Check important pages individually. Leave automatic closing off when you still need the live page.

When optional closing is enabled, Tabvenir closes only saved tabs that also pass its safety checks. Pinned tabs or uncertain interaction state can remain open. A tab that remains open is a reason to inspect the result rather than force a bulk close.

5. Turn the batch into a reading queue

Choose a short folder name around the topic, then add your own index note explaining why you kept the pages. Separate the author’s material from your annotations. Remove duplicate notes after checking which one has the better export.

For later reuse, keep the original source URL and a backup of the exported files. The files remain after uninstalling the extension, but they can still be lost if the folder or drive is deleted.
