# Save browser tabs to an Obsidian vault as Markdown

An Obsidian vault is a folder of local files. Tabvenir can save a batch of selected web pages into that folder without a Tabvenir account or a developer-hosted parser.

## Choose the vault folder, then a notes subfolder

First open the vault in Obsidian and check which folder it uses on disk. In Tabvenir, choose that folder as your save directory. Keep a dedicated subfolder such as Clippings so new web notes stay separate from your own writing.

The browser grants access to the folder you choose. It may ask you to confirm that access again after a restart. Select the vault folder itself rather than a protected system folder. If you cannot grant access, export a ZIP and move its extracted files into the vault.

## Save a small batch before a large collection

Open two or three public articles in Chrome or Edge 144+. Open the Tabvenir side panel, grant site access if requested, select those articles, and prepare the batch. Check the content before saving it to your vault.

Leave automatic closing off for your first test. After saving, find the new .md files in Obsidian and open one. Compare the title, opening paragraphs, code blocks and images with the source page. Saving a file does not prove that every part of a complex page was extracted.

## Keep the Markdown and its images together

When moving a saved note, preserve the relative paths to the accompanying assets folder. Moving only the .md file can break images even though the text still opens.

A vault is not a backup by itself. If you use a separate sync or backup service, that service determines where copies go. Tabvenir does not configure Obsidian Sync or guarantee how another sync tool handles assets.

## Opening notes: published version and next update

In the published 0.0.1 release, open saved files from Obsidian normally. Version 0.0.2, submitted for store review, adds a dedicated Obsidian open button and an optional automatic-open setting. These use an obsidian:// link and require an installed app plus a correctly configured vault name and note path.

Do not enable an automatic-open workflow before checking the save directory and a single note. The browser or operating system may ask you to confirm opening the external app.

## When to use a dedicated clipper instead

Tabvenir is useful when several tabs belong to one reading batch. If your main task is highlighting one page or applying a detailed clipping template, review the official Obsidian Web Clipper as well. Both approaches can produce local notes; choose by workflow rather than assuming one is the only private option.
